We Outran the Sun

We Outran the Sun (a song cycle of portraits)

We Outran the Sun is a song cycle/multimedia piece for the theatre. A series of portraits (both musical and visual), it has music and lyrics by Matthew Carlson (also onstage in The Glass Menagerie), as well as projections and interviews filmed by Michael Heck. Performed at the piano and laptop computer, influenced by both Sufjan Stephens and Chuck Close, it creates intimate portraits of friendship.

Touring Theatre of North Carolina

Touring Theatre of North Carolina returns to Triad Stage for three productions this season. Based in Greensboro, Touring Theatre of North Carolina brings to life original adaptations of literature and historical documents, calling into focus issues of culture, ethnicity and gender.

The Soloist
The Soloist, a stage adaptation of this year's selection for the Greensboro Public Library's biennial "One City, One Book" project (sponsored in part by Triad Stage), focuses on Nathaniel Ayers, a gifted musician who once studied at Julliard and is now homeless and suffering from schizophrenia. His life is altered the day he meets Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez who, looking for a good story, discovered the true meaning of friendship and the heartbreak of mental illness.
